MHDD Webinar Series: A Celebration of Family (Online)

Last summer, the Center for Accessible Living and the Advocado Press in Louisville, Kentucky, published “A Celebration of Family: Stories of Parents with Disabilities.”
The book contains 30 stories of families in which one or both parents have disabilities.This webinar will focus on the experiences of parents and families who have lived experience with co-occurring mental health and developmental disabilities.
Learning objectives:
1. At the end of the session, participants will be able to define eugenics and its relationship to the forced sterilization of people with disabilities in the United States.
2. At the end of the session, participants will be able to identify instances of bias and discrimination against individuals with disabilities becoming parents.
3. At the end of the session, participants will be able to identify successful strategies, including the use of assistive technology, in becoming successful parents.
4. At the end of the session, participants will be able to identify barriers parents with disabilities face in supporting their families, especially if their children have disabilities themselves.
